OUTSIDE THE BOX: CROSSFIT + WAKEBOARDING

Who are you and what is your sport/activity/hobby? 12360428_10208465760512536_4433104436150654440_n

My name is Austin Jensen and wakeboarding is my thing!

How and when did you get started in it?
My dad grew up in watersports and got me on water skis when I was four. At about 10, I saw wakeboarding was starting to take over so I tried it and loved it.

What have you noticed since adding CrossFit to your routine?

CrossFit has definitely improved my chicken legs which has made a huge impact on all of my edging to and from the wake. Wakeboarding is a very core dominant sport and I see a lot of improvement in that as well.

What is your favorite CrossFit workout or movement?

My favorite workout is a workout that doesn’t involve cleans because I swear my elbows won’t go past vertical.

After I graduated high school I wanted to get into better shape to try to improve my riding abilities on the water but, with other things constantly going on, I always found excuses to get out of going to the gym. It was so boring and repetitive.

About two years ago, a friend and fellow wakeboarder finally talked me 555542_4361546207816_1863956188_ninto going to a class in Davenport at CrossFit OC3. After a couple months, I found it to be a great experience to not only workout but also meet new people. I liked that it forced me to do lifts and movements that I used to hate doing. Not only that, but every class is different so you always have something new to look forward to.

This is the first year that I have really pursued CrossFit for more than a couple months at a time. I am excited to see what kind of progression I’ll make with wakeboarding by the end of the summer. Long story short, I do CrossFit in hopes of continuing to improve riding on the water and get into better shape!
